Ignoring Sin. Does it Smell in Here?

9 Feb

We’ve been receiving some unusual winter weather lately. Missing work, school, and hair appointments (gasp!) What to do with all that time? We’ve played some board games, done some homework, read books, watched movies. We also cleaned house.

The weather has caused us to miss something else:  trash collection.  My large cans are full, but no truck has come. I don’t want to see all that trash, or smell it. But if someone doesn’t come soon, I’ll run out of places to hide it.

What about our hearts? Our lives can look neat and tidy on the outside. But, if our hearts are unconfessed, trash collects. Sin creates a hardened heart. Sin’s deceitfulness builds and affects us, even when we think we’re ignoring our sin, it is not ignoring our lives.

When was the last time you confessed your heart before God?

Psalms 139: 23 – 24 is a wonderful verse for prayer.

Search me, God, and know my heart;
   test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
   and lead me in the way everlasting.  (NIV)

Praise God, for sending sweet Jesus to remove our sin. Don’t collect it. Put it out, and he is faithful to remove it, no matter the circumstance.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9  NIV
