Jacob’s wrestling match

16 Jan

The passage from today’s Genesis reading bewilders me.

Observations from context:
1. Jacob is scared about meeting up with Esau and his 400 men.
2. Jacob is following direct instruction by God to return.
3. Jacob gets completely alone the night the wrestling occurs – not just people, but also possessions.

What do you get from this passage? The part about the hip, about not letting go until God blesses him.

There’s some foreshadowing (for lack of a better word) of Isreal’s (the nation) struggles with God, right?
